measi's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday Fives 1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn't have breakfast, why not? Didn't eat breakfast. I haven't since I was about 12, because it makes me feel queasy if I eat when I'm tired. I had a cup of chai from Dunkin' Donuts, though, to keep moving. 2. What's your favorite cereal? Oatmeal Crunch Raisin, I think it's called-- very yummy stuff. Second favorite would be fruit loops. :) 3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change? Erich and I eat out a lot-- more than we really should, both finance wise and health wise. We should change it. 4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that? Thinking about making my Montana State Fair chili recipie, actually... it's a good cold winter day for it. This serves 4-5, but if there are more than 3 people, I usually double it for hearty appetites. 1 lb ground beef (or turkey) 2 minced cloves of garlic 3 tbsp chili powder (more to taste) 1 medium yellow onion, chopped into bite-sized bits 1 green pepper, chopped into bite sized bits 15 oz can of kidney beans, drained 28 oz can of tomatoes, either whole or crushed 1 tbsp whole cumin seed 1 tbsp Worceshire sauce 2 tbsp cocoa powder salt to taste shredded cheese for garnish Brown beef with garlic, chili powder and onions until onions are clear. Put in a stew pot (drained or undrained-- your preference... I don't), and add all of the other ingredients. Simmer for at least 30 minutes, but up to about 90 over low to medium heat, depending on how fast you want to serve it. Make sure to give the pot a good stir every 10-15 minutes to make sure nothing is sticking to the bottom of the pot. This is a very hearty chili-- more like a stew. There should be enough broth to make it easy to eat, but it should NOT be watery or really soupy like a lot of chilis are. Garnish with cheese if you'd like. Freezes great and actually tastes better reheated next day. Make sure to store it in a non-metallic container, as the tomatoes will draw in the taste of a metal container. 5. What's your favorite restaurant? Why? The 99 for their Gold-Fever wings (honey mustard BBQ). Bugaboo Creek for the snowbird chicken and the black magic steaks, and lead me very quickly to ANY Indian restaurant. :) ~ Thanks to Friday Five 10:58 a.m. - 07 February 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
