hacking in humidity

Summer colds suck. Summer bronchitis sucks worse. And summer bronchitis in the middle of a heat wave with oppressive dew points is just torture.

Bronchitis and I have a long history with each other. I get it usually once per year at the end of a cold, and then it stays with me for a few weeks (we're talking somewhere between 5-8 here). My theory is either that bronchitis is another way for my body to refuse to excercise (because it's just hellish to try when you're fighting to breathe), or a lesson in humility from the stares and annoyed glares given on the T during a commute when there's nothing that can be done to stop the round of coughs spasming in the lungs.

Cough meds don't work. I'm literally at the point now that even prescribed Robitussin DM with codeine doesn't do the trick. I just have to sit it out and hope that sucking on cough drops 24/7 will help to keep it relatively quiet. I think I've developed a conniseur's taste for cough drops at this point. *ugh*

So please don't stare at that woman hacking in the corner... 'cause she's aware that she's making a lot of noise, and if she had it her way, she'd be curled up in front of the TV for weeks to prevent others from being disturbed. Unfortunately, the realities of having a job are getting in the way.

*Mel slowly slinks off, fighting not to cough*
