measi's Diaryland Diary

lethargic

I've been productive at work today. Stuff's getting done. But I just have that apathetic "I don't care" attitude going... one that's not good for work in any way, shape, or form. I'd rather be back wandering the streets of P-town.

We had a great weekend. Lots of wandering--My calves are killing me. Lots of yummy food-- (LGM helped eat some of the leftovers we brought home). Lots of nifty little things bought-- *grin*-- from unmentionables down to a digeridoo for me.

Yup. I bought a digeridoo. Now I need to figure out how to play the damn thing. It's got to be the best instrument for lung strength ever invented. Hopefully it'll help restrengthen my lungs. Ever since ending my illustrious five year stint in band in my late high school and college days, I haven't kept the lung power as healthy.

You'll see aboriginal!Mel dancing around next summer. Heh heh heh.

The B&B we stayed at, The Ampersand, was a lovely old home in the West end of Provincetown. Erich and I were the only straight couple there-- pretty par for the course for P-town, since it's well-known for being a welcoming and very open gay and lesbian community. We had a small room in the guest house behind the main house with our own private entry from the garden. The garden was lovely-- nothing past the daffodils had bloomed yet, but everything looked like it would start flowering in the next couple weeks. I'd love to see it in the height of the summer-- it must be lovely.

Provincetown is a quaint little town at the very end of Cape Cod. The Cape Cod national seashore runs along one side of the town, creating a beautiful backdrop of sand dunes as you drive into town (that look like absolutely NOTHING else in Massachusetts--- it seems so alien with everything else around it). At one point, the sand is nearly encroaching on the highway.

The streets in Provincetown are mostly one-way and are very narrow. The Jeep barely was able to get down some of them. Sidewalks are randomly placed and sometimes jump from one side of the street to the other. Most of the streets, though, don't have any sidewalks at all. Cars have to yield to those walking or biking because there's simply nowhere else to go.

A bunch of boutique stores line Commercial Street, which is THE main drag (pardon the pun) in town. Lots of yummy restaurants-- some upscale, some dives, but almost all were busy.

It was pretty chilly all weekend, but the sun was shining, which helped a lot. When we arrived on Friday, things were very quiet. But on Saturday a lot of people started coming into town. The ferry from Boston began running this past weekend. And people came in on tour busses for day trips from other parts of Cape Cod.

It was a fun, relaxing weekend. :) A good way to end the "summer vacations" that Erich and I have been having.

We're home now. And staying there for a while, since we've done so much traveling.

Phew.
