measi's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LONG weekend My knees are numb. And my legs ache. And my arms ache. Moving sucks. Ow. So what was originally estimated as a one-day job actually took up the entire weekend. Erich's dad has a LOT of stuff, and since I'm not able to do stairs that well without going into an asthma attack, I was in charge of packing the kitchen on Saturday as the guys brought stuff downstairs and loaded it into the truck. We started at 9. By about 4 p.m., everyone was dead to the world. The truck was nearly full, but there were still a good amount of boxes still left in the closets of the apartment. Driving the truck up to Keane (two hours away) would wait until Sunday. And so would the rest of the boxes. This morning Erich and I popped over to the apartment to get all of the food out of the fridge and freezer and then drove up to Keane. Getting stuff up into the new apartment went MUCH faster-- only about four hours. We did a bit of the shuttling/hand-off method-- I wheeled the boxes from the truck to the first set of stairs. Erich carried them up the stairs to the landing, and Erich's dad brought the boxes into the apartment. I did a few rounds of stairs for really light objects, but my knees were very shaky by around 1 p.m. By around 5, we got back to Quincy and dropped his dad off to get his car. We're going to organize our storage space later this week and then start moving the remaining boxes from the apartment into our storage space for the time being. Anything that doesn't fit into storage will then be Jeep-hauled up to Keene this Sunday and Halloween weekend. The cool thing is that since he didn't hire movers, Erich's dad paid the two of us for helping him this weekend, and I just knocked down my debt to Erich by a few hundred bucks (yay!) To celebrate, we're going to Foxwoods tomorrow evening to kick back and enjoy ourselves, since we didn't really have a weekend. For now, though, my very comfy bed is calling. 10:57 p.m. - 17 October 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
