measi's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here we go again... Erich leaves the apartment for work this morning around 7:20. Within a few minutes, he buzzes for me to let him back in. I figure he's forgotten something. He comes up with a tiny black thing in his hand... a kitten. About three to four weeks old (probably closer to four), huddled up in his hand, shaking in fear. Apparently Erich heard it mewing from under the wheel of a car right next to the Jeep, and managed to get it out of that spot. We figure that it's probably the kitten of one of the ferals in our apartment complex and wandered away from its mother sometime in the couple hours before Erich found him, and got lost among the cars. We set up a little kittening room in the computer room, since it's the warmest and easiest to block off from Colley and Fizz. LGM's still staying with us, so he's in there to keep an eye on the little one, and to try to coax it to eat from time to time. I quickly ran over to PetCo to grab some kitten food-- both wet and dry, some nursing formula, and a kitten bottle. It doesn't quite seem to have lapping from a bowl or plate down yet. It's acting healthy and responsive-- it's scampered and tried to explore a bit. It's timid but friendly-- both LGM and I have gotten little finger licks from it, and it doesn't object to being pet or held. LGM told me that the kitten fell asleep while he was holding him-- so body heat might be a big factor over the next couple days. Vet appointment to get him/her checked out is at 3 this afternoon... mostly for worms, dehydration, and get the initial tests for Leukemia and FIV done, if the vet recommends it. I think it might be too young for first shots, but if the vet recommends it, I won't object.
