Vacation so far...

Well, it's been a weird vacation week. Good in a lot of ways, but not so great in others...

The biggest "not so great" is a little note we received from the landlord on Monday evening around 5:30. According to the note, a carpet/flooring company was coming on Tuesday to nail down our floorboards, so we should "please move as many items and furniture as possible." That's it. No times, no details. Just that. Giving us less than 12 hours-- including sleep time, mind you-- before these people would supposedly come over.

I went apeshit. Of course, when we got this note the office was already closed. So Erich called up first thing on Tuesday morning to complain. Apparently our neighbor downstairs is getting woken up any time we move around in the evening, and this HAD to be done this week. Just the bedrooms so far-- they'll deal with the rest of the apartment later. The manager was able to change the appointment for Thursday-- today.

We've completely dismantled our bedroom-- the only thing currently in the room is the mattress for the bed, since I can't lift a corner (and there's really nowhere to put it that won't block a doorway.) Everything else is out of there, or stuffed in the closets, so they can pull back the carpet.

The secondary bedroom isn't done, but that's mostly because Erich and I are disagreeing with how much *has* to be done. I think we need to clear out the room. Erich's thinking we need to just get the futon out of there and the computers, but the bookshelves against the wall won't need to be emptied. BUT... it won't take long to dismantle the room if needed, so while they're working on the bedroom Erich and I can clear out the second bedroom (our computer/library room). We got our bedroom done in a half-hour. The computer room will probably take about the same amount of time, since it'll all get tossed here in the living room.

Busy, busy busy.

Hopefully this will satisfy the bitch downstairs. She who said to my face "oh, you both are very quiet roommates, but this is just intolerable."

Well, don't move into a second floor apartment, then. It happens in any apartment building, and quite frankly, nailing the floorboards isn't going to solve the entire problem, lady.

*sigh*

Anyway... other than that situation, which currently has our boxsprings in our kitchen and stacks of crap all over the place, it's been a good week.

My last entry was done while plastered at Greg and Kelly's house up in New Hampshire on Friday night. I don't recall a lot of the evening... Erich says I was nice and pickled by the end of it. I do remember the five of us (LGM was up there, too) watching porn and critiquing it. We crashed out there for the evening, and then headed up to Hebron, New Hampshire for the annual Hebron Fair on Saturday.

Hebron's a tiny little village of around 500-700 people near the White Mountains. It's closer to Canada than it is to Massachusetts. The main square is a traditional New England green, with an old school building on one side of the green, and the church and general store/post office on the other side. Greg's father is the pastor of the church. If I didn't have a solid foundation in my religion, his dad would be the man who could easily bring me back into Christianity-- he's an unusual pastor. But then again, having grown up in Episcopal and Catholic churches, any pastor would probably strike me as laid-back compared to my own!

The Hebron Fair is mostly an arts and crafts fair... lots of vendors setting up little booths on the green. Everything from homemade jewelry to wood products to clothing. There are pony rides and little games for the kids. A bluegrass band plays music all day in the bandstand at the center of the green. Food tickets and lemonade stands are used to gain some donations for the local church, town building repairs, etc.

And then there's the auction. The auction for All Sorts of Shit. Some of it is shit, too. People drop off whatever they find. And nearly everything gets sold-- often for very low prices. LGM won a car there one year for $400.00, which he then drove down to Florida a few weeks later when he moved out of Boston. This year there wasn't a lot that we could use or afford, but we did manage to get a three-tiered cat tree thing for $10.00. It needs a good cleaning, but otherwise is in good shape. Fizzy likes those sort of things, and we've talked about getting one for a while. For ten bucks, it's not that bad-- especially when a new one like this would cost close to $100.00. We bought a new bottle of Nature's Miracle (which I recommend highly for those with pets for those carpet oopses) and some flea killer, and I'll set loose on that later today to get it cleaned up.

After the auction, the five of us went swimming with Hannah, who is now two and very much acting like it. She was cranky all day... UNTIL she got into the lake. She loves the water. The only thing that got her OUT of the lake without protest was promise of ice cream.

No fear. This child will be swimming the butterfly in about three years. Trust me.

Newfound lake is great-- it's amazingly clean and clear, and the perfect temperature to swim in during the summer to keep you feeling refreshed. AND best yet... unlike many lakes, you don't feel grimy when you get out. The water even makes you smell good, with a sweet, clear water smell that I've never experienced anywhere else.

We had dinner at Greg and Kelly's before heading home.

For the most part, the rest of the week has been a lazy one for me. I was broke until today (ah, direct deposit!), so I've been home, working on penpaling stuff, going to see Bad Boys 2 (which was good, but LOUD), playing LAN Warcraft with LGM and Erich, and just having a good week of rest and relaxation.

Just what I needed. *sigh*

Excuse me... I need to go rescue my boxspring from the cat, who's currently six inches from the ceiling....
