measi's Diaryland Diary

Oh, sweet irony...

The problems last week with Ex-Bigger Boss were resolved in a completely unexpected way...

He was fired yesterday. For something completely unrelated to my issues with him. No idea what it was, but Linda had to call a big meeting yesterday morning to give the news, per instructions by our new Bigger Boss, who wondered how people would take the news. The amusing thing was that our inhuman resources department had told Linda that if any employee was "upset or distressed" about the firing, that they could come down to talk.

When Linda told the news, one person started giggling. Then the whole room did. Probably not the nicest of things to happen. But really-- he's been such a pain in the ass to everyone that no one had respect for him. In many ways, we all wondered how it took this long. As soon as he was moved into this new position, it seemed he still thought he was someone who could just delegate responsibility to reflect it away from himself. And he couldn't.

Personally, I think that's part of the reason why he got fired.

Heh. And the mood has lifted just a bit in our little department. :)

I don't understand why HR or Bigger Boss would think people would be upset about this, unless they were so out of touch with his behavior that they couldn't fathom what this guy did. Last week was a minor case of his b.s. Bigger Boss was actually surprised that no one was upset. She thought it would cause fear of other layoffs, or just being upset that he specifically was let go.

Why would we be? We're being released from someone's load of crap that made several people's lives hell for the past three years. As for the layoff issue. I think the economy has been bad for long enough that people have already feared layoffs. If they happen, they happen. That's work life. We've been lucky not to have many of them-- none in my department, actually. But the majority of the people in my department have either worked as contractors or as freelancers. They're used to "no job is permanent" mentalities.

I'm just going under the assumption that they are THAT out of touch. *shrug*

Our office has finally decided to help with employee "wellness" in the past two weeks, offering discounts for memberships at Gold's Gym nearby. They've also welcomed a previous employee, who teaches Yoga professionally, to provide classes during lunch and after work. I'm going to sign up for the after work class if I can. I'm worried that if I do the lunch class- particularly since it's on a Friday - that I won't do ANYTHING after yoga.

Ivanna can vouch-- post-Yoga zen states aren't easy to shake off. They're most definitely NOT beneficial to efficiency at work. :)

The evening class, on the other hand, would be quite nice. It's being held on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45... perfect way to unwind halfway through the week.

I'm psyched.
