measi's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Softly falling It's quite yukky outside. A sloppy mix of light rain and snow. Nothing serious. Just enough to create a dusting on the grass and leaves. The first snowfall of the season. It was calming in a strange sort of way. As I walked to the car, I heard a soft fizzing-- the sound of freezing rain pinging off of the leaves on the trees. By the time I was on the highway, coffee mug in hand, the mix had turned to one of mostly light snow-- little, wet flakes that splooged onto the windshield and were easily wiped off to the side. Of course, everyone in Massachusetts forgets how to drive with snow, even if there's none physically on the roads. WAAF was highlighting that on the morning radio program. They had the air-raid sirens going off in the background during their weather and road reports, telling people they had to make sure to get plenty of water stockpiled because those few killer flakes in "pseudo white-out conditions" would be the death of us all. It was a riot. But of course, the thrum of the windshield wipers and the constant view of snow falling kept me from waking up. So I'm sitting here, a cup and a half of coffee later, still feeling like I just woke up. Gah. I wonder if people would notice if I went to hide under my desk for a nap... 10:35 a.m. - 23 October 2002 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
